A cactus, a guest that grows day after day at the Río Cubas Inn

Un cactus, un huésped que crece día tras día en la Posada Río Cubas

When we welcomed guests to this inn, we envisioned creating a unique space, where I can connect with a living presence. We never imagined that one of our most important companions would be…! A cactus!

That cactus, So silent, with such deep and patient firmness in every movement, it's been growing for two years now since we planted it. And since then, it hasn't stopped growing, and some are even beginning to bloom.

We have it in a sunny corner of the garden, where natural light can give it life and, over time, it can become a kind of “defender of nature” of the place. Those thorny arms, which discreetly greet those who arrive every day, and their particular manner will always arouse great curiosity.

Every guest stops to observe it, take photos, or even ask us how they can care for it. We decided to create this space to share the story of this spiny companion and its previously unknown curiosities.

Did you know that the Cacti can live more than 100 years?

Although they may appear motionless, cacti are very resilient living beings; they grow slowly and with complete determination.

In some indigenous cultures, the cactus meant symbol of spiritual protection. For example, in The San Pedro (Trichocereus pachanoi) are considered as a sacred cactus in Peru.

A cactus can absorb up to 1 liter of water during heavy rain.

Their main features are:

  • Its leaves are transformed into thorns, and thanks to this, water loss is reduced.
  • Its thickened stems accumulate water like a sponge.
  • They carry out photosynthesis in the stems, since they do not have leaves, which is where their vital process takes place.
  • Thanks to their shallow roots, they spread widely to retain all available moisture.

Between cactus and wrapped in nature, Posada Río Cubas Bloom with the tranquility you long for. Come explore this corner, where even the smallest things flourish day by day.

We look forward to seeing you!
