Rutas a pie y paseos cerca de la posada

Cantabria is a true paradise for walking, breathing fresh air, and escaping the daily grind. To help you discover the incredible variety of our landscapes without spending hours behind the wheel, we've compiled four exceptional routes in this guide, all conveniently located near the inn. From easy trails suitable for the whole family, which you can start on foot right from our doorstep, to more challenging climbs for those who love sweeping panoramic views. Choose your path and experience the region like a local.

1. Route «Km 0»: From the Inn (Horna) to Carriazo

The ideal option for those who want to hang up their car keys and start walking right from their doorstep. It's a beautiful circular walk that connects our village, Horna, with the neighboring village of Carriazo via flat country lanes, surrounded by green meadows, cows, and with views of imposing mountain passes.

  • How to get there: Direct pedestrian access from the inn entrance!
  • Difficulty: Very easy. The terrain is practically flat and runs along comfortable paved or gravel country lanes.
  • Our advice: You can take this walk in the late afternoon to enjoy the tranquility of the rural surroundings and, while you're in Carriazo, take the opportunity to have a nice cold craft beer on the terrace of Rocker Beer before returning.
  1. Cliff Route: From Loredo to Galizano (The Coastal Trail)

It is, without a doubt, one of the jewels of our area. A beautiful trail that runs along the imposing cliffs of the eastern coast with the Cantabrian Sea on one side and green meadows on the other.

  • How to get there: Just a 10-12 minute drive from the inn. You can park at the Mirador de los Tranquilos viewpoint in Loredo, or in Galizano to do the route in the opposite direction.
  • Difficulty: Very easy. It's a practically flat path, just under 10 kilometers long, that runs along a perfectly defined trail.
  • Our advice: Do it either first thing in the morning before the heat — so you can then take a dip in any of the beaches you'll pass by — or late in the afternoon to see how the cliffs turn golden with the sunset.
  • Extra for walkers: For those who find it too short, you can continue walking along the coast until you reach the town of Ajo, which would add up to about 20 kilometers in total (round trip).

  1. River Walk of the French Fountain (Hoznayo)
  • If you're looking for a magical, verdant spot, surrounded by lush vegetation and steeped in mysterious history, you'll love this walk. The route winds through the shade, following the course of the Aguanaz River and passing by a grotto known as the Devil's Cave (accessible if you're well-equipped with a flashlight and comfortable shoes). All of this unfolds in an area renowned for the ancient thermal properties of its medicinal waters and the remains of its historic 19th-century spa, now reclaimed by nature. It's a truly fairytale forest, just a stone's throw from civilization.
  • How to get there: About a 10-minute drive from the inn. Parking is very easy in Hoznayo, right at the start of the marked trail.
  • Difficulty: Easy (with an option for adventure if you decide to visit the cave). It's a linear route, completely flat and very comfortable to walk, ideal if you're looking for a relaxed stroll without much effort.
  • Our advice: It's the perfect plan if you wake up to a typical northern day (a bit overcast or with the classic drizzle), or if you simply want to escape the heat during the middle of the day, as the lush grove keeps the air wonderfully cool. Don't leave without peeking into the small cave where the original spring emerges.

  1. Ascent to the "Tetas de Liérganes" (Cotillamón and Marimón Peaks)

If you're looking for a real mountain challenge and want to stretch your legs with a good climb, this is the route for you. The famous "Tetas de Liérganes" (Liérganes' Breasts) are the most iconic feature of the region. The ascent is demanding, but the reward at the top is unbeatable: a spectacular 360-degree panoramic view overlooking the entire Miera Valley, the Bay of Santander, and the peaks of the Picos de Europa.

  • How to get there: It's about a 15-20 minute drive from the inn to the beautiful village of Liérganes. You can park at the village train station and start the climb from there, ascending a narrow track, which is the most challenging part of the route.
  • Difficulty: Moderate difficulty (due to the accumulated elevation gain and some steep sections over rock). A reasonable level of fitness and footwear with good grip are required.
  • Our advice: Don't do this route if fog is forecast, as you'll miss the views. On the way down, a must-do is to stop in Liérganes for a stroll across its main bridge, learn about the legend of the Fish Man, and refuel with its famous hot chocolate and churros.
